ABOUT US
Meet the Founder
Ara L’anBura was founded by Halimah Martins-Kuye, a creative entrepreneur with a lifelong appreciation for fashion, beautiful spaces, culture and the experiences that make life memorable.
For Halimah, fashion has always been about more than getting dressed. It is about how a woman feels when she enters a room, the confidence she carries, the memories attached to what she wears, and the pleasure of choosing something simply because it feels like her.
Ara L’anBura grew from this perspective, and from a desire to create a fashion house that celebrates the richness of African culture while speaking to the modern woman with a global outlook. The brand draws inspiration from the beauty of African landscapes, travel, architecture, colour and the rituals of celebration, translating these influences into pieces that feel distinctive yet effortless.
At the heart of Halimah’s vision is a simple belief, beautiful occasions deserve beautiful clothes.
Through Ara L’anBura, she hopes to create more than garments, but a world women want to enter, return to, and make their own.
The meaning behind the name
For a long time, I searched for a name that could embody the woman I wanted to design for, a woman who is bold, confident and willing to act.
I found inspiration in the Yoruba proverb, “Ìgbà ara là ń bùrá,” which speaks to thunder and the boldness of challenging it when it is at its most powerful. Its message is simple, true courage is not tested in the dry season, when the thunder is silent, but in the season when it can answer you.
At its heart, the proverb is a reminder to understand the season you are in, to embrace each stage of life, and to take necessary action when the time calls for it. For me, it speaks to courage, timing and conviction, the willingness to act when it matters, rather than simply talking about what you intend to do.
I shortened the proverb to Ara L’anBura, and gave it a meaning of my own, a pledge to self.
It represents the woman at the heart of Ara L’anBura, a woman who makes promises to herself and has the courage to follow through. A woman who knows that beautiful things in life are not simply wished for, they are lived, chosen and claimed.
